Third grade is the best! Ella, Eva, and Esteban, the “Three E-Migos,” adore their class, particularly their monthly show-and-tell. When they learn that the school year is coming to an end, they decide to make their final show-and-tell the most unforgettable one yet. With a little assistance from Ella’s uncle, they plan a surprise that will leave their classmates astonished and amused. Inspired by poet John Godfrey Saxe, author Paul Guthrie wanted to instill valuable lessons in perspective for readers of all ages. His collaboration with illustrator Betsy Kaage brings this heartwarming tale to life.
The Guthries have been cherished friends since Bill Kaage’s college days at Hendrix University in Conway, Arkansas. Betsy was welcomed into their circle in 1998 at our wedding, and we have deeply valued Susan and Paul’s humor and friendship. We’ve shared countless laughs, watched children grow, and created beautiful memories over the years. Now, with this book, we have a lasting treasure to cherish together.
Art is all around us, from the natural world to the everyday objects we use. Artist Betsy Kaage is inspired by the world around her to create functional art that is both beautiful and useful.
Kaage follows the “form follows function” principle of design, creating art that is both aesthetically pleasing and practical. She has painted the façade of a New York City bar while on scaffolding, touched-up Oprah’s talk show set, designed and painted a mural for a playground, and upcycled treasures into works of art.
Kaage loves working on a variety of surfaces, from large, open spaces to tiny, intricate details. She is as comfortable working on a computer as she is at her workbench.

In the 90s, I was inspired to write a children’s book about my special place at our home in Madison, WI. The oak tree had just the right perch to look out over the neighborhood, allowing me to relax with my thoughts and dreams. The Arboral Admirer is one-of-a-kind and has yet to be published. I gave the book to my mom as a gift!
